It is a huge challenge to be a good manager. Many managers I have encountered have been promoted through the ranks and found themselves in leadership roles due to success in the “hand-on” work itself rather than due to a real desire to lead. For some this has been a blessing, and they have thrived in their roles having discovered a love for nurturing their people and taking responsibility. For others, it has led to frustration and demotivation for themselves and the team they look after. Delivering results through other people is the greatest challenge for most new managers.
