Coaching Recently Appointed Managers

management coachingIt is a huge challenge to be a good manager. Many managers I have encountered have been promoted through the ranks and found themselves in leadership roles due to success in the “hand-on” work itself rather than due to a real desire to lead. For some this has been a blessing, and they have thrived in their roles having discovered a love for nurturing their people and taking responsibility. For others, it has led to frustration and demotivation for themselves and the team they look after. Delivering results through other people is the greatest challenge for most new managers.

Through questionnaires and a variety of tools, in addition to conversations in one on one coaching sessions I work with a client to:

  • Assess strengths and areas needing development
  • Make the most of their style and preferences to achieve business results
  • Gain insight into potential barriers to meeting the challenges of their new roles
  • Formulate and execute actions calculated to produce desired results

An assessment of strength and additional skills and capabilities required in the new role can vary but may include:

  • Managing expectation.
  • Demystifying the new role and responsibilities.
  • Motivation, delegation and empowerment of team members.
  • Performance feedback
  • Communication skills, internal and external audiences.
  • Managing time effectively
  • Increasing confidence and motivation

management coachingWhat will you take away from the coaching sessions?

My coaching style is very much “hands on”, immediate, and focused on specific business needs and development issues. You’ll get constructive feedback in a supportive environment and a concrete action plan for continuing your development as a manager— and getting results in your organisation.
